Lexington Sporting Club - 2026

Lexington Sporting Club Motion Graphics

Objective:

Lexington Sporting Club recently was promoted into the USL Championship last season. With that promotion, expectations for a dynamic, engaging social media presence only grew. The Director of Communications tasked me with creating unique goal graphics based on the team’s home and away kits for the season. The goal was to create something that felt like it could resonate with fans, yet stand out amongst the rest of the USL clubs.

About:

After pulling all photos and footage from LSC’s media day, I began cropping, cutting out, and editing stills and videos to be ready to use for animation. I also began pulling from the design language that the LSC team had already come up with to ensure that what I created truly represented not only Lexington SC, but the city of Lexington, as well.

After establishing the assets I would use - type, vectors, images, footage, etc. - I blocked out a rough storyboard that established how the animation would flow and where to utilize my match-cuts.

But of course, once you actually start getting into the keyframes, things change. What looked good in your head may not translate to screen. But nevertheless, accepting motion design as an iterative process has helped me a lot. There’s no shame in revision. I ultimately landed on the idea of more or less just matching the movements of text and objects, a technique that I often saw in lots of professional sports motion design. This worked well and I felt made the compositions flow seamlessly. Plus I learned to add flashes. Flashing lights really quickly helps make things feel wayyyy more exciting.
