Popsugar’s Re:Play Motion Graphics
Objective:
Vox Media’s company, Popsugar, reached out to ask if I could create a suite of animations, title cards, and .mogrts for their new video series, Re:Play. The goal was to stay within the Re:Play brand while also creating animations that were subtle, quick, and engaging. The animations themselves were based off mini-games that the host and guest played during the interview.
About:
After a few meetings with the Creative Team over at PopSugar, I started iterating based off the type, colors, and assets I was provided. From there I created rough storyboards for each animation. All the animations needed to be branded appropriately, yet I also wanted to create them based off the name of the games themselves. For example, Full Body Flashback was a game that involved interacting with the five senses, so I decided to create an ear, eye, mouth, nose, and hand that spun around into the title.
I believe that there are subtleties in motion design that I am still yet discovering, and creating animations such as the ones for Re:Play have helped me understand there are ways to take things the extra mile, without going too far.
